In1953 I saw an ad in the Herald newspaper "Scotland Island Land for sale Waterfront NE views own beach, price 85 pounds, we bought it. It was lot 124 Robertson Rd and over the following year built our summer home at weekends, which we called "WINDRUSH". We had marvellous times built a jetty and the seawall which I think is still there, was concrete blocks taken over there a few blocks as much as the boat could carry, then one weekend my wife and I constructed the wall and the entry gate in one go !!!!!!!
There was no electricity we had too generate our own.
We used to have residents meetings at Tennis Court wharf till we had to cancel because of the Grass Ticks.
Keith Egan had the ferry run.
Saunder's had a big place round the west side.
We sold our place in 1968 for $17500!!!!!! What is she worth today?
Another thing we where overrun with Possums so people used to trap them and let them go on the mainland, but the people on the mainland used to trap them and let them go on the Island, that's why we had so many.
